This system pre-calculates an entire fuel-tank's worth of full-lap segments (your Refuel value), which you can then choose from (no more under/over fuelling).
You can choose to make your next stint long or short, safe in the knowledge that the Refuel value you pick will get you back to the pits at full race speed all the way and with as little excess fuel onboard as possible (1L ≈ 1KG).
Running alongside our Real-Time Telemetry Companion App on your PC (not Consoles), the fuel consumption and race duration etc. are kept entirely in sync ensuring accurate calculations and significantly reduces the need for additional (manual) user interaction (brain power).
Works best on multi-stop races, leaving you to make rapid decisions based on the ever changing nature of racing. Thus ensuring that you always "FinishRaces" while performing at your highest ability.
Works for any sim on PC and Console.
What is FinishRaces?
The FinishRaces Race page tracks your fuel burn, lap times and remaining race time to calculate exactly how much fuel you will need (you then decide how to split that requirement over how many stops), stop after stop. It updates (about every 1/4 second) ensuring accurate fuel predictions, lap after lap, in real time, leaving you to concentrate on those apexes and exits.
Whether you’re running a 24 hour endurance race or a 30 minute sprint, FinishRaces handles the maths so you can refuel without needing to calculate your full-lap Refuel value over and over again, thus ensuring you always "FinishRaces" without under/over fuelling, all while staying as competitive as possible.
It works alongside an optional Windows Companion App that lives quietly in your system tray, that by design uses the tiniest amount of processor time (will also work stand-alone for Console users).
When you launch a supported PC sim (see supported sims below), the Companion App detects it automatically — no configuration, no profile selection, nothing to set up. At Session start, it begins to read your Live Telemetry data (an incredibly tiny amount of what is actually available) and sends it to FinishRaces in the background. It does this in periodic bursts (configurable between 1 to 5 seconds - defaults to 3), which keeps demand on the processor and upload bandwidth to a bare minimum.
This system was originally developed for Console, it was extended to acquire PC based Live Telemetry later, massively improving the user experience - IT WILL WORK STAND-ALONE without the Companion App (it just requires additional User interaction)!
How it works
Sim PC
FinishRaces
Mobile Device(s)
Install the Companion App — (Optional but highly recommended if you're on PC) a small Windows tray application (~7MB) that reads the telemetry your sim already produces and sends it to FinishRaces every few seconds. It fires quietly in the background while you race.
Your Telemetry Key can be found under your Account tab
Set up your Weekend — enter your base lap time, expected fuel burn per lap and Free Practice, Qualifying and Race Session durations. Takes under a minute (saves automatically for future use). This will give you a high level view of all sessions in your Race Weekend and is the jumping off point to load up your sim and begin each Session in-game and on here simultaneously.
Load up your Session — This is where the magic happens. Click the alongside each Live Session on the Weekend screen to load up that Session's settings. Sessions can be controlled by a Countdown Timer or Number of Laps.
This screen is designed for in-game use, so a higher contrast layout, the use of large buttons, large icons, large fonts, single click data manipulation etc. has been implemented and it can also be made fullscreen for the best use of smaller screens. Your main focus needs to be on the race, NOT this system, we understand that you have more pressing concerns while racing.
Your fuel requirement and lap data updates automatically as the race unfolds (with the occasional re-syncing of the Companion App when Connected or manual tweaking when not). Tap the full-lap segments to see exactly how much Fuel you will need to add at your next stop — you will STILL need to set that figure in your game's pit setup (we're not that clever... yet).
Console Users
For Console users, all you have to do is hit the Engine Start button during the Formation Lap and then the Race Start button when the green light Go-Go-Goes and the timer will automatically start counting down in time with your game, all you have to do is occasionally manually resync the various values, such as the Onboard Fuel and the Fuel per Lap value, but in reality, those tweaks tend to be very minor.
PC Users
Once your Session config is setup correctly and you are running the App on your PC, "Unpause" the App icon to begin the periodic polling of the FinishRaces server for your most recent Live Telemetry. If it remains persistently "Not Connected", then you will need to ensure that the "Telemetry Key" in your App matches the one on your Account.
Paused
Not Connected
Connected
Data Received
It is advisable to use the Race screen to calculate your Grid (first stint) Fuel load while the App is "Paused". If you Connect too early, the App may (sim specific) continually override your Onboard Fuel etc. with the in-game settings, which can be infuriating when you are actually trying to plan out that first stint's Fuel load.
The App recognises Refuels and so the screen will automatically refresh to the next pit recommendation, ready for you to decide again. No typing, no counting, no guessing, no additional thinking, just... apexes... exits.
You Choose
We don’t hand you a fixed pre-race plan and then hope that reality will play along — a rigid strategy will inevitably come unstuck the moment a safety car, a pace change or a bit of damage throws it off. Instead, every pit stop offers its own decision, made easier with the full-lap segments already populated for you. There are three bars, right there on the race screen:
Fuel to FinishShows exactly how much fuel is still needed to reach the chequered flag from right now, updating live as your pace and fuel burn come in — no mental arithmetic, no spreadsheet.
This example shows roughly 3½ tanks are going to be needed overall (long race), it's your choice how that then gets distributed over your pit stops
Tap to FillThe bar is split into full-lap segments, not a free slider — tap the one you want to stage for the NEXT stop. Full laps only, on purpose: any fuel above a whole lap's worth is just dead weight you're carrying round the track for nothing. It defaults to a sensible suggestion (enough to safely reach the flag, or a full tank if the race needs more than one), but you're never locked in. Tap the same spot again to release your choice back to nothing staged (for now).
Full-lap segments free you up to concentrate on driving! Notice how the full-lap segments may not mean a completely FULL tank.
Onboard NowWhat's actually in the tank right now, plus your staged Refuel value — and a clear flag if you're carrying more than you'll actually burn, so you're never guessing whether you're overweight on the grid.
The light green shows the current Onboard Fuel level. The dark green shows what your staged Refuel value would look like
Choose Wisely
The full-lap segments will indicate if you are about to commit a cardinal sin!
The Onboard display will also indicate that you are running far too heavy (you should have taken our advice)!
Every stop is a fresh decision, not a locked-in plan — any pit stop, whether it's the one the app suggests or a splash-and-dash after a safety car, the hard thinking is done for you, just use the staged Refuel value because you KNOW it'll be to full-lap spec.

More simulators are in development. The Companion App is designed to support any sim that exposes telemetry data, so expansion is a question of when, not if.
Console Users
Live Telemetry isn't available for Console users, you have to manually ensure the 2 systems remain in sync (honestly it's not that difficult), including Start Engine and Start Race...
...you then have to manually ensure the numbers stay in sync with what is in-game so that your fuel recommendations also remain realistic and reliable.
The Race Timer automatically counts down (the Live Telemetry merely auto-syncs for PC users), which in turn calculates your running fuel consumption, so the manual tweaking you need to do is usually minimal (can usually be done with a few clicks on Pit Straight).
What it replaces
Mental arithmetic under race pressure, when you've got more important things to be thinking about
Spreadsheet calculators running on a second device
Static pre-race fuel estimates that go wrong the moment your pace changes or you take damage
Forgetting to update your pit board after a safety car
Who it’s for
Solo racers who want one less thing to think about during a race.
Co-drivers and race engineers — the live strategy screen can be open on any number of devices simultaneously. Your engineer can watch from a different room, or a different country.
Content creators and streamers — your audience sees your live fuel strategy in real time alongside your stream, without you having to explain your maths on the fly.
Pricing
Free, forever — Weekend planning and Race strategy screens with manual data entry.
Real-time telemetry — 30-day free trial starts automatically when you connect the Companion App for the first time. After that, it’s £3/mo. Cancel any time, access continues until your current period ends, no questions asked.
About the developer
FinishRaces is built by a sim racer, for sim racers. It started as a personal tool to solve a problem I had every race weekend — remembering how much fuel to put in, under pressure, while also trying to race well. If you have feedback, a feature request, or you just want to say hello, get in touch.
